What a POS system should do for a shop
A point of sale (POS) system is the software at your counter that records every sale. A good one does more than print a receipt. It keeps your stock count honest, shows you what you really made, and makes it hard for money to go missing without anyone noticing.
- Rings up sales quickly, so the queue keeps moving
- Records cash, card, POS terminal and bank transfer payments, including one sale paid in more than one way
- Takes stock off the shelf the moment something sells
- Records who sold what, when, and how it was paid
- Shows takings, profit and what is running low across every branch
Why Nigerian shops need more than a generic POS
Software written for somewhere else assumes steady power, steady internet and a card machine on every counter. A shop here deals with light going out mid-queue, a network that drops, customers who buy half a carton, and cash that has to be counted by a person at the end of the day.
- It keeps selling when the network drops. Sales are saved on the device and sync when the connection returns.
- It sells in fractions. A quarter or an eighth of a unit is recorded and charged exactly, to four decimal places.
- It counts cash by person. Each cashier squares their own drawer, so a shortfall belongs to a counter, not to the whole branch.
- It handles buying now and paying later. Trusted customers can run an account up to a limit you set, or hold a prepaid wallet.
Checkout that keeps up with the queue
Search for a product or tap it, set the quantity, take the payment and print the receipt. Discounts can be set to apply by themselves once a customer buys enough, and show on the receipt so nobody has to remember a price.
UbiquePOS records how the customer paid. It does not process card payments itself, so there are no per-transaction fees from us: you keep using your own POS terminal and your own bank.
Know whose till is short
Every sale carries the name of the person who rang it. At the end of the day each cashier types in what is physically in their drawer, and the system works out the rest. A difference points at one person at one counter, which is the difference between a conversation and a guess.
